You flip on the kitchen light at 1 a.m. and something dark sprints under the fridge. But at 1 p.m. the same kitchen is spotless and still — no roaches, no movement, nothing. It leaves the same harborage each night, travels along edges and seams rather than open floor, covers only a few feet — German roaches typically forage within a short radius of home — and returns to the same crevice before light.
